WaSLA – Washington State Literacy Association

Who Are We?

WaSLA (Washington State Literacy Association, formerly known as WORD) is a state affiliate of the International Literacy Association (ILA) formed in 1954 under the direction of Florence Sperling. In 1960 WaSLA (WORD) was incorporated and continues to support educators throughout Washington. As a non-profit professional development organization WaSLA is dedicated to supporting all persons who are concerned with literacy and encourages groups and individuals at all levels to implement research-based literacy practices.
